Terms of Use

These terms apply when you use Vigia Alert. By creating an account or using the app, you agree to them.

1. Vigia is not an emergency service

Vigia does not replace the police, fire service or ambulance. In an emergency, call 111 (Angola) or your local emergency number first. Alerts can arrive late or not at all, for example when you have no internet or notifications are turned off.

2. Your account

Give true details when you sign up, keep your password safe, and use one account per person. You are responsible for what is done with your account.

3. Reporting responsibly

• Report only what you saw or know to be true.

• Don't send false reports, threats, insults or hate.

• Don't share more private information about other people than is needed to keep people safe.

• Don't film people in private places, or show injured people or children in a humiliating way.

• Send a missing-person report only with the family's consent.

4. Review and removal

The Vigia team reviews reports. We can mark a report as verified, reject it, remove content, or suspend accounts that break these terms. "Verified" means our team found the report credible; it is not a guarantee.

5. Your content

You keep ownership of the text, photos and videos you send. You allow Vigia to store them, show them to other users, and share them with the authorities when needed for safety, so that we can run the service.

6. Using the app fairly

Don't try to break into, overload or copy the app or its data, and don't pretend to be someone else, including the Vigia team or the authorities.

7. Vigia Plus

Features marked "Coming soon" are not available yet, and we don't take payment for them.

8. Limits of our responsibility

Vigia is provided as it is. We work to keep information accurate, but reports come from the community and can be wrong. As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for loss or damage caused by relying on a report or by the app being unavailable.

9. Open-source software

Vigia includes open-source code from the Smart Alert project (MIT licence) by T. Koxanoglou, A. Siampanis and A. Cholis.

10. Changes

If we change these terms, we will update this page and the date at the top. If you keep using Vigia after a change, you accept the new terms.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Angola.
